Give Nickelsville a Home

Mapping the progression of Seattle’s nomadic tent city

In reaction to the harsh homeless encampment policies of Seattle Mayor Nickels, homeless individuals and advocates set up camp in 2008 on unused city land in Southwest Seattle. They were quickly evicted and have since been moving to different sites. Their goal throughout has remained the same – a permanent location for this self-operating camp.

A series of 2’ x 3’ posters, including a map of Nickelsville’s extensive relocations, were created as part of a guerilla poster campaign. Dozens of posters were fly-posted in an effort to put public pressure on newly elected Mayor McGinn and the Seattle City council to take action.
